By Sierra Club CA, on May 16th, 2011 Re: Need to Re-Evaluate AB 32 Cap-and-Trade Rule
Dear Governor Brown:
Sierra Club California was an early and active supporter of the California Global Warming Solutions Act of 2006 (AB 32), and we have participated frequently in its implementation process. We also strongly opposed Proposition 23, which would have suspended the law and obstructed the development of our clean energy economy. We thank you for your strong commitment to clean energy, as . . . → Read More
By Bill Magavern, on May 10th, 2011 When T. S. Eliot called April “the cruelest month,” he was probably not thinking of the California Legislature, but your Sierra Club California advocates have had our hands full this month. As you will read elsewhere in this issue of Capitol Voice, we cheered the enactment of a 33% clean energy standard and moved 2 of our own sponsored bills through their first policy committees.
But I want to tell you more about a very important part of . . . → Read More

(Milpitas, CA) — California Governor Jerry Brown today signed SB x1 2, requiring public and private utilities to obtain 33 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020. The new renewable power standard (RPS) established by the bill will electrify the Golden State’s economy with new jobs, while reducing the pollution that causes climate disruption.

RE: SB1X 2 (Simitian) – Request for Signature
Dear Governor Brown:
Sierra Club California strongly supports SB1X 2 by Senator Simitian. SB1X 2 would require that at least one third of our electricity comes from clean, renewable sources by the year 2020.
With one action – enacting a 33 percent RPS immediately – the state can give clean energy investors the green light they need to infuse new life into the state’s clean energy tech economy. In the absence . . . → Read More

On Tuesday, Gov. Jerry Brown is expected to sign SB x1 2, requiring public and private utilities to obtain 33 percent of their electricity from renewable energy sources by 2020. The governor’s action comes at a critical time for the state of California. By Sierra Club CA, on March 25th, 2011 Ask Gov. Brown to stop the GOP Five from gutting CEQA TODAY
Exploiting the hardships caused by the economic climate and the state budget crisis, special interests are redoubling their efforts to pass legislation that would dismantle the Golden State’s premiere environmental law, the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA). Developers and business groups are spinning California’s high rates of unemployment to claim an inherent conflict between job creation and the protection of our environment and . . . → Read More

Over the last seven years, the question I’ve been most asked by reporters, whether they’re based in California, Washington, D.C., or even foreign countries, has been some version of “How green is Schwarzenegger, really?”
My answer has never been that simple – the truth rarely is. Consequently, my comments have sometimes angered those in the administration who felt they weren’t getting enough credit for all the wonderful work they were doing, and sometimes drew barbs from . . . → Read More
