Meet the Staff

Kathryn Phillips–Director

Kathryn PhillipsKathryn Phillips leads lobbying and regulatory advocacy and overall administration of Sierra Club California. She began this role in August 2011.

She previously directed transportation and air pollution work in California for Environmental Defense Fund, where she worked on regional, state and federal policy, and also gained experience in agriculture policy and water policy. Before joining EDF, she was a senior policy advisor at the Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies, where she focused on air quality and transportation issues. Kathryn has been based in Sacramento since 2001.

Kathryn holds a B.A in history from the University of California, Berkeley, an M.A. in Journalism from the University of Missouri, Columbia, and a Master of Public Policy degree, with a dual focus on natural resources and transportation, from the University of California, Los Angeles. A former journalist, she is the author of two books about environmental issues.

Jim Metropulos – Senior Advocate

Focuses on energy, water quality, water supply, parks and off-highway vehicles, wetlands and flood control issues.

Jim Metropulos has been a legislative representative at Sierra Club California since the beginning of 2002. Before coming to the Sierra Club, he was committee counsel to the Washington State Senate’s Environment, Energy and Water Resources Committee.

Annie Pham – Legislative Assistant/Organizer

Annie Pham provides legislative and administrative support, including coordinating lobby day. She also organizes advocacy on efforts to reduce vehicle miles traveled, and is the lead regulatory advocate for Sierra Club California’s toxics work. She joined Sierra Club California in 2007.

Annie graduated from California State University-Long Beach with a BA in Political Science, and has a Masters Degree in Counseling from California State University-Sacramento. When not at work, Annie enjoys spending time with her family in the outdoors and can be found hiking the trails of Northern California and enjoying snowy locations in winter months.

 

  

Amanda Wallner – Organizer, California Coast Resilient Habitats Campaign

Amanda WallnerAs an organizer for the Resilient Habitats Campaign, Amanda bridges the gap between Sierra Club’s dedicated grassroots activists and state and federal agencies to promote the preservation of the California coast’s natural resiliency in the face of climate change impacts.  Amanda joined Sierra Club California in January 2011, as Legislative Aide and Green Transportation Organizer.

Amanda has a B.A. in Political Science from the University of California, Santa Barbara, where she headed the nationally recognized Campus Democrats organization. Her years in Santa Barbara strengthened her love of the California coast and instilled in her what some may call an unnatural affinity for voter registration.
