Byron Sher Award

Every year, during Sierra Club California’s annual Lobby Day two California Public Officials are presented with the Byron Sher Award for outstanding achievement in environmental protection. In 2011 we recognized Senator Christine Kehoe and Assemblymember Mike Feuer.

Senator Kehoe has authored and passed into law landmark water conservation legislation requiring the metering and volume pricing of water delivered by urban water supplies. She has also passed laws to reduce risks from fires, require the tracking of state funds used to purchase conservation easements, and facilitate the transition to electric vehicles.

Assemblymember Feuer authored, and passed into law, the California Green Chemistry Initiative, landmark legislation enhancing state authority to protect Californians from toxics in consumer products. He has been a steadfast ally in defending foundational environmental laws, including the California Environmental Quality Act.
