UPDATES ON ENVIRONMENTAL POLITICS IN CALIFORNIA

Sierra Club California Blog Spot

SIERRA CLUB CALIFORNIA CONVENTION 2010

Each year, Sierra Club California convenes its annual Convention to choose the volunteer leaders who help guide our state’s policy. These volunteer leaders work tirelessly behind the scenes to protect our air, water and atmosphere at the policy level.

At the Convention, Sierra Club’s California activists choose their Executive Committee, educate the membership of the Sierra Club and the public at large about how to combat pollution and help solve tomorrow’s environmental challenges alongside Sierra Club staff leaders.

Environmental leaders from all over the state meet with Sacramento staff, to connect with  other chapters and learn about major state and national campaigns.

All chapters select four delegates, plus one additional delegate for each 5,000 members. The California Conservation Committee selects an additional 18 delegates to the convention.

PURPOSE OF CONVENTION

At the convention, members can:

  • Choose the Sierra Club California Chair and the members of the California Executive Committee.
  • Advise the California Executive Committee (we say “ExComm”) about what priority issues Sierra Club California should address within the California Legislature.
  • Weigh proposed bylaw amendments.
  • Advise ExComm members about new club rules.
  • Counsel the ExComm about the amount of dues allocations to chapters that should be used to support programs of Sierra Club California.
  • Consider endorsing candidates for statewide offices.

All Club members are welcome and are encouraged to attend.
